Fleet Feet Sports 4+ Mile Run

This past weekend I participated in the Chapel Hill 4 mile run with Calvin and Kathleen cheering me on from the sidelines. Despite a lack of training for the race, it was perfect. The start and finish were inside Kenan Stadium, the crowd was - as always - friendly, the adrenaline was pumping, the weather was cool and overcast, the bell tower played Hark the Sound as we ran by, and I did well by finishing in 47 minutes and 47 seconds. Spot on for a 12 minute mile including the famous "Laurel Hill Challenge". This is the 2nd time I've run this race in 3 years and I'm happy to keep it an annual tradition. It makes me proud to have completed my first post-baby athletic event. I'm so thankful for my husband's support and his presence at the race with Kathleen. This is the kind of Mom, wife, and late 20 something I want to be.

2010 with Margaret Potter! I believe our time was 45 mins.

2012 with a smile on my face. Take that Laurel Hill!

Books Books Books

Kathleen loves her books. It's so fun to watch her crawl over to the shelf, pull them out, and start flipping through the pages. She even "reads" to us and "tells" us what she sees on each page!
It doesn't matter where you put her down in the room, her bookshelf is the first place she goes to play.

Stuffed Green Peppers

Calvin made these last night for the family and it was just so pretty I had to take a picture! Mexican rice and veggies baked in a green pepper. In an effort to go vegan he left out the cheese this time and we only missed it a little! Calvin is currently wrapping up an ethics of what we eat class and having learned more about The China Study we are considering a whole foods, plant based diet. I'll have to keep you posted on how that goes! More to come this summer.

Easter

For Easter Sunday we worshiped at the Sunrise and 9:30 a.m. services at Highland UMC, where Calvin is working as an intern with the youth group. Kathleen did well at the sunrise walking service snuggled up to Mommy in the ergo baby carrier. We then enjoyed a light breakfast at the church and after the 9:30 worship service we headed to my parent's home for lunch with the family. Easter is a time where we get together with my grandparents, aunts, cousins and all the kids. This year was a little bit smaller of a gathering, but it was so fun to have our own kid to bring to the party! The weather was perfect and we spent most of the afternoon playing in the front yard. My cousin's two boys and Kathleen hunted Easter eggs, we kicked the soccer ball around, and even did cartwheels. After the crowd left, Grandma and Pop Pop gave Kathleen the pink horse with the basket in front, bubbles and ducks. It was a quick trip home for a Sunday afternoon, but we so enjoyed spending time with the family and the left overs made for a good dinner too.

Kathleen is 11 months old and still learning to walk.

Pullen Park

This past Saturday Kathleen and I headed to Pullen Park to meet our dear friend Margaret for a walk around the pond, couple carousel rides, a train ride, lunch and good quality catch up time. Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the carousel ride.

Kathleen loved to kick the sides of the horse and rock back and forth when we told her to giddy-up. And afterwards we pet the horse on the mane and nose to tell him he was a good horse and thank you for the ride!

Asleep before we could even leave the park!
